Editorial Review:

Amazon.com:
Banged out in a hurry for the 1964 Christmas market, Beatles for Sale sometimes sounds it, loaded with ill-conceived covers and some of John Lennon's most self-loathing lyrics. On the other hand, the people doing the banging-out were the Beatles, whose instincts for what worked musically were so strong that they could basically do no wrong--any record that has "Baby's in Black," "I Don't Want to Spoil the Party" and the delectable "Eight Days a Week" on it is only "minor" in the most relative sense. And, though their voices had been frazzled a bit by constant touring, they revved them up for some joyous shouting, and indulged their fondness for American country in subtle, playful ways. --Douglas Wolk

Average Rating: out of 5 stars

Rating: 2 out of 5 stars - A little digging is required, but there are some good songs
"No Reply," "I'm a Loser," and "What You're Doing" and the best of the originals on this album, in that order.

"Kansas City/Hey, Hey, Hey, Hey," "Rock 'n Roll Music," and "Everybody's Trying to be My Baby," are the best of the covers, also in that order.

This album was made during a time when the Beatles were exhausted, and is one of the Beatles worst albums.

However, the album artwork on the cover is fantastic; very honest and gritty.

Rating: 5 out of 5 stars - A Bit Of Darkness Creeps In Courtesy Of John
The rush of their first three albums is supplanted here by a melancholia. The harmonies show them to be at their most Everly Brothers-influenced ever. The album jacket reveals them to look world-wearied, however, that doesn't neccessarily inform the material. Though "Mr. Moonlight" is a lapse of prudent judgement and "Kansas City" sounds uptight, the other covers work. "Rock And Roll Music" has some of the shivering explosiveness of "Money" and "Twist And Shout" and I do love the charm of Ringo singing ... Read More

Rating: 5 out of 5 stars - They could have went further
Sounds great, but they could have went further. These remasters are very inconsistent. I feel like they held back. Overall this wasn't worth the wait, but they are still better then the 1987 versions.

Rating: 5 out of 5 stars - music
The Beatles CD I had ordered from Amazon is fantastic.I'm 50 yrs. old and I have 2 older sisters that had the albums at one point in time and I haven't heard the music for years.I turned on Showtime because they had a free weekend and they had previews of how they put the beatles circ de solei together and I heard the song,No Reply at the end and I just wanted to see if anybody handled that music. The Cd came within 5 days and I have really, really played and enjoyed the music alot. It' so well worth $14.00.Thank ... Rating: 5 out of 5 stars - Four Guys in Fine Voice
The Beatles were hot in 1964 and like everyone, I couldn't get enough of them (still can't it seems). So, I was overjoyed when my dad got me this record. Back then, getting imports was not so easy, but my dad owned a record store on Hollywood Boulevard and imported a lot of records and that was good for me. This record, number four for the Beatles, depending on how you count them, has the Fab Four going in a different direction. Lennon's songwriting has changed some, the band is tighter, well that's my opinion. ... Read More
