In the Exo-Force storyline, humans are at war against robots that have malfunctioned and are now bent on total domination. This Sentai Fortress is the site of humanity's last stand and robots are at the gates. The set comes with 1,448 pieces and a full-color, illustrated instruction booklet that diagrams model construction over 140 pages. Each wall in the fortress has a vehicle that moves from station to station along the wall's rim, moving either defensive weapons or supplies. The fort's defenses are primarily made up of a red LED bricks that makes a convincing laser weapons and a rapid fire disk launcher that sends Cheerio-size plastic discs about 10 feet across the room. Like a lot of other small parts in this set, these energy disks present a choking hazard for very young kids. Parents should especially note these since they're yellow and green and could easily be mistaken for candy. The set has eight minifigs, including Exo-Force leader Sensei Keiken, who is not available in any other Exo-Force set. The human pilot minifigs have spiky, anime-style hair that covers the back of their heads and hides the fact that the head parts have two expressions to choose from: angry and berserk. Inside the box you'll find two plastic wall pieces, 28 numbered parts bags, a sheet of more than 60 decals, and instructions. Numbered parts bags make it easier to build the set in stages since the numbers correspond to discreet sections of the building diagrams. My son wanted this for his 9th birthday, and he's had a lot of fun with it. He built it independently. It does take up a lot of space, but he's already done some improvising and creative things with it beyond the instructions, which is why I like his fascination with Legos. It's a bit fragile as far as moving it, or having little brothers mess with it!

I like this set because it includes several battle machines from both sides for twice the fun as just the fortress would be. There are also several items for attack and defense, including a construction/repair bay, command center, regeneration station, and more to make Sentai Fortress one of the best sets ever.
