Product Description: Young Jedi can take to the skies in this massive model that kids build themselves. There's 1,366 pieces in all. Once built, click off the top and slide back the command bridge for access to the Destroyer's interior. Rotate and elevate the gun turrets, push the knob in front to release the escape pod, and open and close the weapon lockers. Explore Darth Vader's meditation chamber, which features a crane that lifts the helmet from a pedestal onto Vader's head as he kneels before Palpatine's hologram. No batteries required.
Amazon.com Product Description: Designed to strike awe and terror into Rebels hearts, the Imperial Star Destroyer and the rest of the Empires fleet of space vessels maintain order in the galaxy through shows of power and ruthless fighting tactics. This massive (23-inches when assembled) Lego space ship, based on the Star Wars craft, will be a feather in the cap of any self-respecting Lego buff. With 1,366 pieces and a top and sides that swing open to reveal the inner workings, construction of the kit will be an adventure in itself. Once built, the Imperial Star Destroyer will provide hours more of play, as fans re-enact scenes from the millennia of fictional Star Wars history, or even create new battles and alliances in conjunction with other Lego Star Wars kits (Jabbas Sail Barge, the B-Wing Fighter, etc.). Kids (and adults) will love discovering the multiple gadgets within: a platform for Darth Vader to talk to a hologram of the Emperor, a meditation chamber for Darth Vader with a crane to remove his helmet, turbo laser cannons on the bridge that really discharge, an escape shuttle releases in case of emergency, a storage closet for Stormtrooper rifles, and a bridge that slides open. Nine mini-figures are included (Darth Vader, Grand Moff Tarkin, two Stormtroopers, two Emperors Royal Guard, Imperial Officer, R2-D5, and Mouse Droid). --Emilie Coulter

As I grew up with Legos also, I found this to be surprisingly expensive for a Lego set. However, it is truly what he wanted for his birthday and he has gotten a tremendous amount of satisfaction and enjoyment out of not only building it, but playing with it and inviting friends, family and anyone else around to check it out. This ship took about eight hours to put together by one person. It was bought for my six year old who wanted to interact with it and got very upset when it starting falling apart the minute he tried to open certain parts of it. I then spent several hours putting glue on all the major parts to prevent it from totally falling apart. I would say this is more for display purposes rather than play.

Pros - Fun build
- Nice assortment of figures included
- looks great
Cons - Cost, This set is not in production and will cost anywhere from $170 on up. With tax and shipping you can easily spend twice the ammount of the original MSRP if not more
- Design, The ship is constructed in such a way that you must remove the upper portion to play inside it. To me this detracts from it asteticly. The Republic ship currently out now has a better design. I suppose ... Read More
